Darren McGhee is in the top 10 of Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2019
A roof tiler from North Lanarkshire is celebrating after reaching the national final of Britain’s Top Tradesperson 2019.
Darren McGhee will join nine other top contestants to go head to head to win Screwfix’s coveted title. Up for grabs is a top prize worth £20k, comprising of £10k worth of tools, £5k tech and £5k towards future training.
The bar is high and Darren, who runs DMG Roofing, will aim to impress a panel of judges with his care package initiative he set up to for his customers to improve impressions of the industry, during the final at Screwfix LIVE in Farnborough on 27 September.
Darren is thrilled to have reached the final stage. He says: “Words cannot express how happy I feel to have reached the final of Britain’s Top Tradesperson. I have worked so hard to make a difference to the roof tiling trade and to win this competition would be the seal of approval to show it was all worth it.”
It’s the 10th year of the competition and the 2019 winner will join the hall of fame, alongside previous winners Stuart Roache and Lluis Dalmau.

I’d like to congratulate Darren for getting to the final and wish all of our top 10 the best of luck!” During the final, Darren will face a panel of industry-leading judges including representatives from the NICEIC, CIPHE and FMB. Screwfix CEO, John Mewett will announce the winner at the Trade Talk stand from 3:30pm at Screwfix LIVE.
